Position Title: Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner  Rutgers New Brunswick

Posting Summary: 

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner for Rutgers Student Heath. The Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner position is responsible for diagnostic interviews and medication management.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Prescribes psychotropic medication and manages medication regimen.
• Works collaboratively with therapists providing psychotherapy to shared patients.
• Consults with faculty and administration to provide assistance in the handling of specific cases and to serve as an educational resource to the campus community.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• A Masters in Nursing or Nurse Practitioner degree
• 3 years or more of experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Certifications/Licenses:

• NJ Licensed Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Nurse 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Independent judgment and discretion are essential.
• Ability to evaluate and diagnose patients, make decisions about the urgency of needs, conceptualize a patient’s problems and develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current knowledge of adolescent medicine.
• Ability to understand and communicate in the English language.
• Ability to work at a pace consistent with the health center’s needs to insure that students are processed in a timely manner.
• Ability to cope with interruptions, multiple tasks, and stress of dealing with multiple patients at a fast pace (especially during peak workload).
• Ability to make appropriate client observations.
• Computer skills to perform telehealth services, if needed.
• Ability to complete documentation in a timely manner in accordance with CAPS policies.
• Demonstrated commitment to student-centered practices anchored in social justice with a focus on equity for students belonging to historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.
• Commitment to dismantling systems and policies that foster systems of inequity and injustice in a clinical setting while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within CAPS.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement: 

Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility.  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine.  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
